Appellate Practice
GSK attorneys have argued more than 50 appeals and even more cases in which they appeared on behalf of entities interested in particular appeals as an amicus curiae or friend of the court. Our experience extends to the Supreme Courts of Washington, Montana, Oregon and California, the Ninth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. GSK successfully convinced the Washington Supreme Court to reconsider its earlier decision and ultimately end the State Department of Correction's practice of letting private companies set up shop in prisons to the detriment of GSK's clients — those companies which do not have access to cheap prison labor. GSK represented rural King County landowners seeking to submit the County's new critical area, storm water and clearing and grading ordinances to a vote of the people. Oral argument before the Washington Supreme Court was held on the University of Washington Campus.
